Level 1 - Learn to Roller Skate - 6 Week Course - Hoxton
Skill Level 1: Over 18s who are new to roller skating or want to build confidence on their wheels.
Got your own roller skates? Made it as far as putting them on before getting the fear?
Join us for a fun-packed 6 weeks of weekly, one-hour classes to get you rolling confidently. In our Learn to Skate course our instructors will teach you to roller skate forwards, backwards and stop in a safe and inclusive indoor space. We’ll also answer any questions you have about how to start roller skating, including how to fall safely and basic skate maintenance.
What you'll learn?
- How to wear your protective kit and roller skates for safety.
- How to roller skate forwards and backwards.
- How to stop.
- How to fall safely.
- Changing direction, turning corners and avoiding obstacles.
- Maybe a cheeky spin or dance move so you can show off at the roller disco.
You must bring your own quad roller skates, protective wrist guards and knee pads. We are unable to teach you without these for your safety.
Requirements to protect our floors:
- Wheels must not be harder than 99A
- Jam plugs or toe stops are required
If you haven't replaced or removed any parts of your skates they will meet the above requirements.
Helmets and elbow pads are encouraged but not mandatory.
Wear something you're comfortable to move freely in, glitter and disco vibes are always welcome.
Bring a refiallable water bottle, all our venues have water refill stations.

Parking:
The school does not have a car park but there is free on-street parking in the area after 6.30pm.
You can lock your bicycle up within a secure area. Bring it through reception and the staff will point you in the right direction.
Find us:
Entrance to City Of London Academy is on the corner of Northport St and Hyde Rd.
When you arrive at the school press the buzzer to the left of the door and someone will let you in. Turn right from reception and go up the stairs where will find the sports hall on your right.
If you need assistance, there will be a member of school staff on site at reception who can direct you.

We cannot offer catch up classes if you miss a session, but we will always do our best to recap on any content that you may have missed.
Unfortunately you can’t join a class if you are, or suspect you are pregnant or postnatal due to the risk of falling.
We may take photographs and videos at our classes. If you would prefer not to be filmed or don’t want us to use your image for promotional purposes just let us know.
